How we work

Culture

The principles that shape the team behind every shipment. Less of a values poster, more of how we make decisions.

A logistics company is its people. The systems, the lanes, the documents, the technology - all of it sits on the judgment of the team that decides which carrier to call when a vessel is delayed, which broker to escalate to when a shipment is held in customs, which customer to spend an extra hour with when their cargo is sitting in a warehouse and the clock is ticking. We hire and we work for those judgment calls.

This page is the slightly longer version of how we think about that.

The right answer is rarely the convenient one. The convenient one is just the answer that lets you log off at five.

Operating principle

Our guiding principles

These are not posters on a wall. They are the rubric we hire by, review by, and disappoint each other by when we slip.

Integrity

We never waver on honesty and trustworthiness, or on our support for employees, clients, and the communities we operate in.

Personalized service

No two clients are served the same way. We scope what fits a client's short-term and long-term goals, not what is easiest to invoice.

Empowerment

We help our team step up the ladder. We want every Icon employee to be the best version of themselves, with ongoing training and real responsibility.

Exceptional customer service

Clients have open access to every level of our team, including after hours when a shipment needs it. That is how long relationships are built.

Respect

We treat employees and clients the way we want to be treated. We listen for the perspective behind the request before we answer it.

Social responsibility

We give back where we operate - humanitarian, environmental, and educational initiatives, including scholarships and local programs in West Africa where we ship.

How decisions get made

When a shipment runs into a problem - a delay, a customs hold, a documentation issue - the answer at Icon does not come from a script. It comes from whoever has the most context and the relationships to fix it. That person calls the carrier, or the broker, or the customer, makes the judgment call, and explains it afterwards. The structure exists to support that, not to slow it down.

That is what we mean when we say empowerment. It is not a poster - it is the operational reality. People with five and ten years on the team have stayed because they get to do the work that matters, not because they are stuck in a process.

Our mission

Plainly: deliver peace of mind to our clients while they navigate the complexities of global trade. That is the whole job. Everything else, the lanes, the documentation, the technology, the office in Laurel, exists to do that one thing well.
